About Chicago, IL
The epitome of big city America, Chicago, or the ‘Windy City’ extends for nearly 40
kilometres (26 miles) along the southern shoreline of Lake Michigan in north-eastern Illinois. In
fact this location, on a main inland water route, was one of the main reasons which enabled Chicago
to become an important part of America's expansion towards the west. To the world Chicago means
business but there’s a lot more to it. Through the years, Chicago’s awe-inspiring skyline has
captured the imagination of many poets, songwriters and even film producers, with the most recent
being Rob Marshall’s masterpiece ‘Chicago’ which walked away with 6 Oscars in 2002.
Chicago is also known as America’s ‘Second City’ with a wealth of attractions that’s second
to none. Travellers from all over the world come to Chicago to marvel at some of America's oldest
skyscrapers, revel in the shopper’s paradise of the ‘Magnificent Mile’, pamper themselves with the ‘
happening’ dining and entertainment scene, and enjoy the live jazz and blues heard at many of
Chicago’s hotspots.
The Art Institute of Chicago which houses a vast and extensive collection of artefacts, Sears
Tower Skydeck the second tallest structure in the world, the Chicago Board of Trade, The
Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium / Oceanarium - the world's largest indoor aquarium, are some
of the most popular Chicago Attractions. Chicago is also one of the most ‘sports-craziest’ cities
in the world. The famous Chicago Cubs baseball team, the Football team The Bears and of course the
world-famous basketball stars of the Chicago Bulls have been the pride of locals for many
